Kicking Off

Times Square Takeover

In September, nearly 1,000 riders kicked off our 11th year of events surrounded by the lights of New York City. This all-day celebration, presented by smartwater®, included rare cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, MSK doctors, and special guests—dancing and pedaling together in the center of Times Square.

December Challenge

In December, we raised more than $1.5 million to fund supercomputing equipment that will unlock the molecular mysteries of rare cancers—and lead to advancements in personalized treatments for patients worldwide. Riders who raised $1,000 on their personal fundraising pages by December 31 will be acknowledged with a display of their names in a lab in MSK.

MetLife Foundation Match

During the final days of December, MetLife Foundation generously doubled donations to participants’ fundraising totals, adding up to $300,000 in match dollars.

Rally Week

In early January, we kick fundraising into high gear with Rally Week. This year, we united our community by encouraging social media pride; sharing new Cycle for Survival-funded research breakthroughs; launching the latest New Balance gear; celebrating our founding partner, Equinox; and announcing the debut of our first-ever Virtual Reality experience.

The Research Battlefront

We launched the "What You Fund" page, providing an easy way to browse through the impact made with 100% of Cycle for Survival funds raised—including summaries of 25 research breakthroughs made possible by Cycle for Survival's dedicated riders and donors.

11 Voices in 11 Days

To celebrate our 11th year of events, we counted down to the first ride of the year with Battle Cries from 11 Cycle for Survival participants from across the country. Each day, for 11 days leading up to the events, patients, caregivers, friends, and family members shared their powerful answers to the question: “Why do I ride?”

Into the Lab: Cracking Cancer’s Code

Cycle for Survival’s first-ever Virtual Reality experience brings people inside MSK’s Kravis Center for Molecular Oncology, where researchers are transforming how cancer is understood and treated. This 360-degree, fully immersive look into the forefront of genetic sequencing and personalized treatments debuted at the 2017 events and is now available online, getting you closer than ever to the impact the Cycle for Survival community is making on rare cancer research.

Equinox Snapchat Geofilter

Our founding partner, Equinox, designed special Snapchat geofilters for riders to share their photos. Every time a geofilter was used, Equinox donated $1 to Cycle for Survival!

ICAP Fundraising Sprint

Thanks to ICAP, 20 riders who received the most donations from unique donors won big boosts to their personal fundraising pages.

Million Match Challenge

Thanks to The Crimson Lion / Lavine Family Foundation, our community was matched with $1 million in gifts between February 22 and March 8. Riders and donors worked together to win big by increasing past donations and securing first-time donations!
